Call them Orange County's bipartisan human rights caucus: Reps. Loretta Sanchez, D-Santa Ana, Alan Lowenthal, D-Long Beach, and Ed Royce, R-Fullerton, stood together Tuesday morning to call for human rights in Vietnam and for the White House to help advance the cause.

The press conference, hosted by Sanchez, is part of an effort to pressure President Barack Obama to talk about human rights with Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang when they meet on Thursday. The talks are scheduled to focus on trade, but the members of Congress believe any trade agreement must come with human rights benchmarks.

"As we expand our nation's diplomatic relations with the Vietnamese government leaders and further engage in the Pacific, we must urge them to embrace reforms that would improve governance, protect human rights, and advance political freedoms," Sanchez said....
