Representatives Ed Royce (R-CA) and Joe Crowley (D-NY), Co-Chairs of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian-Americans, issued the following statement condemning today’s attacks on innocent civilians in Mumbai:

"We strongly condemn today’s attacks on innocent civilians in Mumbai. There can be no justification for what took place, and the targeting of civilians on their commute home from work is deplorable.

"We send our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and we wish those injured a speedy recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are also with the people of India, as well as Indian-Americans around the globe, as they attempt to make sense of these horrific acts.

"With the U.S. - India strategic dialogue planned for next week in Delhi, these senseless attacks underscore that counter terrorism cooperation between the two nations must be a top priority."

Representatives Royce and Crowley are co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian-Americans for the 112th Congress. A bi-partisan group formed in 1993, the Caucus is an influential voice on issues pertaining to relations between the U.S. and India, as well as the growing Indian-American community in the U.S.
