In Case You Missed It…The following is an Orange County Register letter to the editor submitted by Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA) on the need to continue real spending reductions:

I agree with the Register editorial "Stock market making the case for cuts" [Opinion, Aug. 9]. This year I voted for every amendment that calls for additional cuts and offered many of my own, understanding that everything must be on the table if we are going to solve this crisis. I voted for a budget that cut $9 trillion over the next decade and takes on those critical issues the president refuses to acknowledge, namely, restructuring the entitlement programs approaching insolvency. While the House plan that passed ended up cutting only $6 trillion over the next decade – not enough – it was a move in the right direction.

Unfortunately the U.S. Senate, still under the control of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, agreed only to $2.5 trillion in spending cuts, woefully short of where we need to be. That is why I continue to support a full $9 trillion in real spending reductions, and why I will remain vigilant to reduce the size and scope of federal government.
